Northside Common Market
Welcome to Northside Common Market, a non-profit organization established in 2019 in Lexington, Kentucky. Our journey began with Julietta Market, a small business incubator focused on empowering marginalized entrepreneurs. For three years, we operated out of the historic Greyline Station building, nurturing and supporting numerous small businesses as they transitioned from start-ups to brick and mortar store operators.
As our project evolved, we realized that economic development was our true strength. We witnessed firsthand the transformative power of fostering entrepreneurship and helping businesses thrive. Today, we continue our mission to drive economic growth and create opportunities for the community we serve.
In addition to Julietta Market, we are proud to introduce The Market Kitchen. This state-of-the-art commercial kitchen was made possible through funding from USDA grants and the generous support of the Murry Foundation. Spanning approximately 2,600 square feet, The Market Kitchen provides a valuable resource for up to 10 food entrepreneurs, offering them a space to create, innovate, and bring their culinary visions to life.
At Northside Common Market, we are dedicated to supporting local businesses and fostering economic vitality. Join us as we strive to build a vibrant community and empower entrepreneurs to reach their full potential. Together, we can make a difference.
We are proud to share the success stories of the businesses we have supported in transitioning from online or pop-up ventures to brick and mortar locations. Over the course of three years, Julietta Market operated inside Greyline Station, we have witnessed 15 businesses expand or establish their own storefronts.
Yasmine Fleming
One notable success story is that of Yasmine Fleming, the owner of Luxe & Ash, the first black-owned candle pour bar in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2022, Luxe & Ash joined our market as a pop-up vendor and quickly gained popularity. Within six months, Yasmine's business had outgrown its space at Julietta Market and she made the exciting decision to open her own store at Fayette Mall.
This achievement showcases the entrepreneurial spirit and dedication of Yasmine, as well as the impact of Julietta Market in providing a platform for small businesses to thrive. We are thrilled to have played a part in Yasmine's journey and are committed to supporting more entrepreneurs like her in achieving their dreams of owning a brick and mortar store.
Edward Harp
We are honored to share the incredible journey of Edward Harp, a California native and master jeweler with a passion for diamonds. Despite facing significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including losing his home, Edward decided to leverage his expertise in custom jewelry making and design to start his business at Julietta Market.
Starting with just one kiosk, Edward's talent and dedication propelled his business forward. His craftsmanship and knowledge in the world of jewelry quickly gained recognition, leading to the expansion of his business to two kiosks at Julietta Market. Not only that, but Edward's success also allowed him to bring on apprentices, further contributing to the growth of his enterprise.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that Edward Harp has found a new home for his business in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. His beautiful brick and mortar store stands as a testament to his resilience and unwavering commitment to his craft. We are immensely proud to have been a part of Edward's journey and will continue to support entrepreneurs like him in their pursuit of success.
